Jaouad Bentama is a multidisciplinary artist rooted in contemporary art, whose work reflects a profound quest for transformation, movement and metamorphosis.
In the 1990s, Bentama was also influenced by the antique dealers of the Porte de Clignancourt in Paris, where he developed a fascination for old and worn objects, bearers of memory. This influence is manifested in his use of found and recovered objects, which he reinterprets in his works.
A major event deeply marked his artistic journey: a serious scooter accident in Tulum, Mexico, which left him with several fractures and in a coma. This accident has upset his vision of art and challenged his creative approach. After this experience, Bentama began a reinvention phase, focusing his work on the symbolism of tears, which he explores in his latest exhibition. The rips in his work are not calculated or premeditated; they are a reflection of the randomness, the unpredictability and the spontaneity of life. They express movement not only as a physical force, but also as a metaphor for the being active in life, always seeking transformation. These tears are at once fragility and strength, rupture and rebirth, central themes of his current work.
